Why Language Matters When You Know You’re Dying

In this TedEd video UK Palliative Care Consultant Mark Taubert talks about language and the experiences of dying patients. Using quotes from his patients he reflects on four key points:

  • Less militaristic battle metaphors in cancer and palliative care please;
  • Easy on all the positivity lark, I can feel sad if I want to;
  • When I planned for the worst, I actually felt a sense of relief;
  • Lighten up, I'm not dead yet!
