The rewards of volunteering

Sandeep has been volunteering with Eastern Palliative Care in Victoria for the last twelve months. After losing a close friend to brain cancer, Sandeep decided to become a palliative care volunteer as a way to honour him.
“I’m at the stage where I want to do things that are more meaningful,” says Sandeep. “I’ve been working in senior executive roles in organisations where you’re in an environment of high levels of ego and a lot of self-promotion. I find this is a completely different environment, where it’s not about yourself, but about the other person. This is a very unusual experience.”
