Save the date: Compassionate Communities Symposium February 2017

  • by Maria Lopez

A new collaboration between Palliative Care Australia and The Groundswell Project will bring together world leaders to advance the Compassionate Communities movement in Australia.

A Compassionate Community is a community that provides support to someone who is dying, and could involve friends family, neighbours and volunteers as well as formal health services. The concept of Compassionate Communities was formed in the late 1990s by the work of Allan Kellehear and others as a means of empowering members of the community in extending support to people at end of life.

Supported by the Australian Government, Palliative Care Australia and Groundswell will host a Compassionate Communities Symposium in Sydney on 20-21 February 2017.
