NSW Volunteering Strategy 2020 – 2030

The NSW Government has released their new volunteering strategy for 2020 – 2030 aimed at growing volunteering and making a difference.

Contributions for its development were sought from the NSW peak body for volunteering, The Centre for Volunteering and 62 other volunteering organisations.

The strategy recognises that volunteering plays a key part in growing socially inclusive and resilient communities. Their vision is that “Volunteers make a difference” and that volunteering needs to be promoted, supported and valued.

They have formulated a set of seven guiding principles which will influence their actions and investments over the next decade. These principles will ensure:

  • all those wishing to be involved are able to do so
  • the sector is responsive and well resourced
  • volunteer leaders have the tools and support they need
  • the contributions made by the sector are recognised and respected
  • the benefits and impact of volunteering is understood and recognised; and that the sector grows.

The strategy also recognises the value of diversity in both the age range of volunteers and their cultural background. The NSW Government also hopes to work in partnership with the sector to support the development, implementation and uptake of technological solutions.

Significantly, the strategy understands that in order to achieve any of their intended outcomes they must support volunteer managers to deliver best-practice volunteer management.
