Seventeen new graduates have completed their palliative care volunteer training at Liverpool Hospital this month.
Arlene Roache, District Palliative Care Volunteer Coordinator, says her service saw many volunteers step down when COVID restrictions left them unable to continue with their role. Now things are getting back to normal she has been recruiting to build up numbers. This is the first group of new recruits.
“After getting to know these volunteers during their ongoing sessions of training I feel confident they are ready to begin their role. They are a great bunch and I have high hopes for their success,” she says.
These new volunteers will be allotted volunteer positions across six hospitals and five community health centres within the South Western Sydney Local Health District.
Present at the graduation and helping to hand out graduation certificates were Janeane Harlum, Area Palliative Care Manager &Service Development SWSLHD, Therese Smeal, District Palliative Care Nurse Coordinator SWSLHD, and Kate Bowman, Volunteer Support Services Programme Manager PCNSW.
Arlene tells me one volunteer in her new cohort found their way to her via the service locator on our website. Thanks for including me, Arlene. I loved meeting and chatting with your volunteers.
