New biography services on the way

New volunteer biography programs are set to begin in six services after volunteer managers attended our training early this month.
Robyn Swanson and Julie Gissing, ex-Sacred Heart Biography Service managers, shared their considerable experience and facilitated the Volunteer Biography Service Training. The training is designed to help volunteer managers and coordinators either initiate a new biography program or enhance an existing one within their services.
The training covered everything from conducting the biography to producing the final legacy document, helping volunteers navigate their specialised roles, and discussing the nuances and skills of crafting a life story. We were pleased to have participants join us in person from far and wide, including Armidale, Coffs Harbour, and Canberra.
By the end of the session, everyone felt inspired and ready to elevate their volunteer programs. We look forward to the expansion of biography services both in palliative care and aged care settings.
The Volunteer Support Services Program is here to boost capacity in the sector. We are continually providing professional development for both volunteers and managers, enabling them to offer the best support to people with life-limiting illnesses, their family, and carers.
