National Volunteer Week 2021
- by Kate Bowman
- March 31, 2021
National Volunteer Week2021 is held from 17 – 23 May.
This is the time when we can recognise the celebrate the enormous contribution volunteers make to society. Australia has almost six million volunteers who offer up 600 million hours of their time each year to help others.
The theme for this year is Recognise, Reconnect, Reimagine which acknowledges that it is time to:
- RECOGNISE, celebrate and thank volunteers for the vital role they play in our lives.
- RECONNECT to what is important by giving our time to help others and ourselves.
- REIMAGINE how we better support volunteers and communities they help.
Here in NSW, at last count (2018) we have 1610 Palliative Care volunteers spread across 44 volunteer services. The COVID pandemic may have put a dent in their operations but nevertheless their efforts ought to be celebrated.
Volunteering Australia has a suite of resources available from their website including Certificates of Appreciation for volunteers, posters, social media tiles and logos.
Resources are available for everyone to use leading up to and during NVW. We encourage all volunteer involving organisations to proudly promote the upcoming celebrations and use their resources widely to help increase the awareness of the vital role volunteers play in our lives. #NVW2021
