COVID vax for volunteers

  • by Kate Bowman
  • April 8, 2021

The Australian COVID-19 vaccination program officially commenced on Monday 22 February 2021. The national roll-out strategy identifies priority populations who will receive the vaccine in the earlier phases.

Phase 1b of the rollout is underway and includes anyone who is working in a health care setting.

According to advice given by the Australian Government this includes volunteers working in a health care setting, for example hospital and palliative care volunteers as they are in an at-risk ‘workplace’ setting.

It is not mandatory for volunteers to receive the vaccine however considering the negative consequences of acquiring and transmitting COVID19, as well as the potential effects of long COVID, vaccination is recommended.
