Congratulations to Phillip Wilcher who has been awarded Sydney Local Health District’s Volunteer of the Year for 2025.
Phillip has been a palliative care volunteer at Concord Hospital since COVID restrictions were lifted. As an accomplished musician, his playing brings comfort to patients and visitors on the palliative care ward bringing a sense of normality to what can sometimes be a stressful environment.
He visits three days a week and takes the time to tinkle the ivories on the grand piano in the hospital atrium for everyone to enjoy. Jacqueline Martinez, Concord Hospital’s Palliative Care Volunteer Co-ordinator, says everyone responds well to the beautiful music Phillip makes.
“We are delighted his dedication and compassion was acknowledged and rewarded by the district presenting him this award,” she said.
Congratulations, Phillip!
