Position vacant: Volunteer Coordinator

Volunteers for Palliative Care Inc Maitland are currently advertising for someone to fill the role of Volunteer Coordinator. Applications close at 10pm August 31.

A dynamic and enthusiastic role for a Volunteer Coordinator, part-time (20 hours/week), for our Maitland-based community palliative support service. 

Volunteers for Palliative Care Inc Maitland is a community non-government organisation, non-clinical service partly funded by the NSW Health Grant Program. We provide support services to palliative patients in the Maitland local government area. The role is to process palliative care client referrals, perform home assessments, recruit and train volunteers, initiate volunteer placement and bereavement support of volunteers. 

Our Aims:
Volunteers for Palliative Care Inc.’s primary aim is to provide trained Volunteers who endeavour to strengthen the ability of the ill person, and his/her family and friends to live as fully and as richly as possible.

The aim of our palliative care Volunteers is to provide compassion, comfort, companionship and practical help to our target group.

Formal Qualifications and/or Experience Required
Tertiary qualifications and/or relevant experience in managing an NGO.

Essential Knowledge and Competencies Required
1. Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Palliative Care
2. Experience working with Volunteers
3. Understanding of the requirements of the Privacy Act 1988 as they relate to palliative care community support
4. Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills
5. Proficiency in the use of technology such as Microsoft Office and social media platforms for the administration and promotion of our service
6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team
7. Knowledge of the issues and challenges of grief and loss
8. Experience with grant submissions and funding management
9. Willingness to work from home
10. A reliable and comprehensively-insured vehicle
11. A Working With Children Check and a National Police Certificate
12. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination

Position Objectives
Working closely with the Board, the Coordinator will be responsible for:
1. The daily management and co-ordination of the service on behalf of and in accordance with, the directives of The Board and the funding body (HNE LHD NSW Health).
2. Contributions to the development and implementation of policy and service initiatives as well as the maintenance of quality assured service/management practices
