Sixteen hardworking palliative care volunteers from Braeside Hospital were recently honoured with certificates of recognition for their exceptional contributions to the community. The event was held at NSW Parliament House on September 19, where they met with the Hon Ryan Park, Minister for Health, and Dr David Saliba, Member for Fairfield.

Volunteer Manager Leanne Broadhead says HammondCare considers volunteers to be the backbone of their organisation, and the acknowledgment highlights the vital role they play in enhancing the lives of others.

“Whether they provide companionship, assist with daily activities, or simply be a comforting presence, their impact is immeasurable. It was a proud moment for all of us at HammondCare to see our volunteers celebrated in such a meaningful way,” she said.

After the ceremony the volunteers attended a Q&A session featuring NSW politicians discussing key topics such as women’s health and transport issues, particularly concerning hospitals in Blacktown. Following this, they enjoyed harbour views from the beautiful rooftop garden of Parliament House.

“We are incredibly grateful to Mr Park and Dr Saliba for recognising the invaluable work our volunteers do and for their ongoing support of community initiatives. The volunteers found the experience both educational and rewarding, and it truly made them feel appreciated,” said Leanne.
