New Supportive and Palliative Care Unit opens in Auburn

Western Sydney has a new supportive and palliative care ward available to it’s residents. The new unit is located in Auburn Hospital and was recently visited by Health Minister Ryan Park, and Member for Auburn, Lynda Voltz.

The 15 bed facility features a lovely outside area for patients to enjoy as well as a carer kitchen and lounge space.

Minister for Health, Ryan Park said, “The team at Auburn Hospital has created a real home away from home for patients – a place for people to spend some difficult times, some very important time, and create some memories in those final days, weeks, and months that people experience when they’re dealing with a life limiting illness and disease.

“What I’m really impressed with is the team here at Auburn, the culture, and the real care they show for their patients the care they show for each other.”

The facility is well supported by a fabulous team with many years experience in palliative care between them, including volunteers.

Volunteer Manager Kylie Clark has been buddying up new volunteers with more experienced partners to help support them for the first few weeks. She is currently looking for more volunteers from the area and will be running training soon at Auburn Hospital.

She is also happy to accept students looking for experience in clinical settings for example, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, radiologists, and nursing students.

If you are interested in volunteering please contact Kylie Clark at [email protected].
