National Volunteer Week in Australia is the biggest yearly tribute to volunteering, scheduled for May 20-26, 2024. This significant occasion aims to emphasize the crucial role volunteers play in our community and encourages those not yet volunteering to join in.

Volunteering is at the heart of building strong and connected communities. National Volunteer Week provides a wonderful opportunity to recognise the selfless contributions of volunteers across the country. It’s a time to celebrate their dedication, passion, and generosity in making a difference in the lives of others. Whether it’s lending a helping hand at a local charity, mentoring youth, or supporting environmental initiatives, volunteers truly embody the spirit of giving back. As we come together to honour their efforts during this special week, let’s also inspire more individuals to get involved and experience the joy of volunteering first hand.

This year, National Volunteer Week is running alongside National Palliative Care Week.

“Trained palliative care volunteers are an important part of providing holistic and quality palliative care. In NSW, over 1,100 volunteers from 38 palliative care volunteer services are part of a palliative care team and are actively involved in offering human companionship to people receiving palliative care and to their families. They provide comfort, reduce isolation, and bring respite to family and carers. We thank them for their time, dedication and incredibly important contribution” says Kirsty Blades, CEO, Palliative Care NSW.

Palliative Care NSW and our Volunteer Support Services Programme would like to acknowledge all palliative care volunteers across NSW.
