A huge congratulations to the Eastern Palliative Care Volunteer Team from Mitchum in Victoria for winning the 2023 Outstanding Achievement in Volunteering Award at the Oceanic Palliative Care Conference.

The volunteer team at EPC involves 240 volunteers, who in the last financial year contributed over $1 million dollars’ worth of work, to clients and carers.

Their work covers a a wide range of activities such as dog walking, photography, bereavement, respite and admin through to biography work, phone support, hair dressing and working directly with carers both pre and post death.

In NSW, EPC volunteers are most widely known for their contribution to palliative care biography writing. Many NSW biography service providers have based their policy and procedures around the model first pioneered by EPC.

Eastern Palliative Care has now set up their Centre for Volunteer Excellence, a training arm that will train other organisations both nationally and internationally on how they too can get such outstanding contributions.
