Ensuring precious memories live on

HammondCare’s Life Stories program was featured on Sky News this morning.

The story focuses on Sandra Campbell, a 45 year old mother of two who has been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Sandra has been working with HammondCare volunteer, Sarah Mellowes, to record her life story.

Sandra says that this opportunity has helped her to confront the pain of facing death.

Sarah says, “When she talks about her Mum, or a memory in Colombia, or her first kiss with her husband or the travels they went on, that makes it all worth it.”

Leanne Broadhead oversees this program and says that, “Biographies are a treasured legacy for those left behind.”

The Life Stories program will soon be expanded offering biography to dementia patients and residents in aged care.

You can watch the full story here, as posted to the Sky News Australia YouTube page.
