Dying to Know Day (D2KDay) is an annual national day of action held on August 8th, to inspire you to begin to prepare for the inevitable, not with fear, but with purpose, love, and a sense of legacy.

The theme for 2025 – 2027 is Nobody Knows.

Nobody Knows is a cheeky, irreverent campaign designed to expose the absurdity of keeping your end-of-life wishes a secret. Because not telling anyone your final wishes is chaotic, confusing, and worst of all creates guesswork and potential family division.

At its core, Nobody Knows ‘The Secret I’m Glad I Shared’ is a call-out. Because if Nobody Knows your final wishes, they never will. Share them now.

Get involved in your Community

Dying to Know Day is more than a day of awareness, it’s an opportunity to start important conversations in your own community, we encourage palliative care volunteers and volunteer managers to consider hosting a Dying to Know Day event.

Events can be as simple or as creative as you like, from community conversations and information sessions to film screenings, workshops, morning teas, or intergenerational activities that encourage people to share their wishes, values, and plans with those who matter most.

In addition, you could host a community screening of JIMPA, a potential low-cost event that could be held in association with Dying to Know Day (8 August).

JIMPA is a fictionalised account of a real-life story featured on Australian Story, following a daughter who reconnects with her estranged father after he is diagnosed with a serious illness. The film provides a thoughtful and engaging way to encourage conversations about end-of-life planning, family relationships, and community support.

Organisations interested in hosting a community screening will be provided with resources to help facilitate discussion and engagement with attendees.
