Closing the Women’s Health Gap

Investing in women’s health, creating a world where all individuals have equal access to medical care, education, and resources is crucial, not just for health equity but also for boosting women’s participation in the workforce.

When women are empowered to make informed decisions about their health, they can contribute more effectively to their families, communities, and societies as a whole. By closing the women’s health gap, there is not only an improvement in individual well-being but a more prosperous and equitable future for everyone is fostered.

Palliative Care NSW (PCNSW) and the palliative care sector generally is fortunate enough to have many women, contributing to closing the women’s health gap, through health expertise, delivery of education and mentoring.

One of those women is Carmen Sanchez, an active member of PCNSW.

On this International Women’s Day we would like to recognise Carmen, Nurse Practitioner in Palliative Care at Calvary Kogarah who works tirelessly to inspire inclusion in palliative care.

Carmen is an advocate for culturally appropriate care, education and engagement working with both the community and healthcare professionals. She has a passion for mentoring healthcare professionals from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities to support career progression, and in helping women and families from CALD communities make informed decisions about their health.

Carmen shared these powerful words about what inspiring inclusion means to her: “generosity, tolerance, progression, improvement and a commitment to do better”.

Thank you Carmen for your commitment to a world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive and to all those who work in palliative care, including the amazing palliative care volunteers, who are striving for those same outcomes everyday.
