Call for abstracts – PCNSW State Conference
- by Kate Bowman
- June 6, 2022
Palliative Care NSW is hosting its biennial State Conference this year in Terrigal from 3-5 November. The Scientific Committee warmly invites everyone who either works in or has an interest in palliative care to submit an abstract for consideration.
The theme ‘Facing the Future Together’ celebrates the importance of being together. After years of restrictions that have prevented us from meeting in-person – whether with colleagues, family or friends we can finally look forward to a brighter shared future. This period of change has given many of us an opportunity to reflect on things that are important, and how the future may be different. As we recognise our resilience and embrace our optimism, we consider ways we can improve the future of palliative care using lessons learned.
The conference seeks contributions that explore, inform or challenge around four themes:
Future of therapeutics and innovations in palliative care
– Developing new uses for medications – e.g. psilocybin and ketamine
– Embracing allied health in holistic care
Palliative care and climate change
– Role of the natural environment in death and dying
– How can death and dying be sustainable?
Communication – new technology and skills in palliative care
– What did we learn from the pandemic?
– Will “death” always be taboo?
– How can we embrace technology in the future?
– To what extent can technology replace in-person interaction?
Hope – Future of the palliative care workforce ‘are we ready’?
– Selling palliative care to the future workforce
– Baby boomers and how they will change the face of palliative care
– Formal and informal carers – where are the men? Gendered workforce challenges
Volunteers and organisations that host volunteers are encouraged to submit abstracts.
