Wisdom and experience shared with first trainees in Western Sydney

Training is well underway for the first group of palliative care volunteers to join Western Sydney LHD, with an experienced colleague from a neighbouring area sharing her wisdom about volunteering in hospital.

Robyn spoke about the importance of volunteers respecting privacy, of being a good listener and of being accepting of different views on life.

The group also enjoyed a BBQ with staff and management as part of an orientation to the Mt Druitt Palliative Care Unit.

Kylie Clark, volunteer manager with Western Sydney, said that volunteers will work with patients in the unit, offering companionship and comfort, along with hand massages and practical assistance to patients.
