Diversity enriches society by bringing together different cultures, traditions, and ways of life, fostering understanding, empathy, and mutual respect. In palliative care volunteer services, inclusivity isn’t just a nice idea; it’s absolutely vital

To truly offer compassionate, person-centred care, the diversity of your community should be reflected in your volunteer cohort.  A diverse team is a strong team. For the volunteers themselves, an inclusive environment means everyone feels valued and able to contribute their authentic selves.

Having a volunteer team that includes people from various backgrounds means there’s a much better chance someone can connect with a patient on a deeper level. This broadens your capacity to understand and respond to the wide-ranging needs of patients and their families, ensuring that care is always respectful, empathetic, and honours each person’s unique journey.

NSW Health have released a poster that when displayed will make everyone feel welcome and proudly announces your organisation’s commitment to autheniticity, inclusivity, and diversity.
