PalliLEARN – Free Palliative Care Education for Community & Volunteers – Sep to Dec 2025

Welcome to PalliLEARN
Introductory easy-to-understand courses for building the skills and awareness to support and care for those who are living with a life-limiting illness, dying or grieving.
Each course runs for 60-minutes. You can register to any course that interests you.

Who
: Ideal for all members of the community — including carers, family members, volunteers, and anyone supporting aging loved ones or those with a life-limiting illness, or seeking an introduction to palliative care.
Cost: No cost if you live in NSW (if you live in another state, please refer to PalliLEARN in respective state or visit www.palilearn.org)

Courses Available:

What is Palliative Care? – 2nd of September 2025 11:00am – 12:00pm (AEST)

What you will learn:

  • Understand the definition and principles of palliative care
  • Recognise the essential components of palliative care
  • Where to access resources for accessing or providing palliative care.

What Matters Most to Me? – 16th of September 2025 11:00am – 12:00pm (AEST)

What you will learn:

  • How to tell others what matter’s most and discussion starters
  • Advance care planning (ACP)
  • Understanding what’s important to someone at the end-of-life phase.

Palliative Care: Planning in 5 Steps – 30th of September 11:00am – 12:00pm (AEST)

What you will learn:

  • Identify a carer’s role and key statistics
  • How you can plan to meet individual’s caring needs in 5 simple steps.
  • Useful tips for carers

How to Talk About Dying & Grief – 14th of October 2025 11:00am – 12:00pm (AEDT)

What you will learn:

  • Develop the confidence to initiate and navigate conversations about dying and grief
  • Strategies to listen and respond compassionately
  • Recognise the importance of self-care and follow-up for those involved in the conversation

Talking To Children About Dying & Grief – 28th of October 2025 11:00am -12:00pm (AEDT)

What you will learn:

  • Understand how young people and children respond to grief & loss.
  • Develop confidence to initiate conversations and respond to common questions about death.
  • Recognise the importance of preparing life without a loved one.
  • Develop self-care strategies for yourself and children.

Your Role in a Compassionate Community – 11th of November 2025 11:00am – 12:00pm (AEDT)

What you will learn:

  • Build your skills and awareness around fostering compassionate communities
  • Identify the obstacles of carers to seeking assistance and formulating a collaborative care plan
  • Generate ideas to enhance connections and build compassionate communities

How to Nurture Compassion – 25th of November 2025 11:00am – 12:00pm (AEDT)

What you will learn:

  • Understand the benefits of introducing compassion into our lives
  • Acknowledging and connecting suffering as a human experience
  • Examining sources of compassion
  • Identifying and alleviating compassion fatigue

Self-Care – 9th of December 2025 11:00am – 12:00pm (AEDT)

What you will learn:

  • Understand the benefits of self-care
  • Identify 8 areas of self-care
  • Examine areas of your life that requires attention and design a self-care plan
  • Integrate a self-care plan and develop strategies in your regular routine
