Volunteers provide a range of support to help patients and their carers and families in the Supportive and Palliative Care Unit at Mount Druitt Hospital and on C71 Medical Oncology at Blacktown Hospital.

Support ranges from sharing a cup of tea and a relaxing hand massage to just listening to the patients and families during their difficult times.

These amazing volunteers are also involved in offering:

  • Mindfulness.
  • Colouring books.
  • Diffusers with essential oils
  • Music.
  • Hand knitted rugs.
  • Memory kits for children and providing access to iPads or card and board games.

“The role of our volunteers is to make a patient’s stay as comfortable as possible,” said Mount Druitt Hospital palliative care volunteer coordinator, Kylie Clark.

Volunteers are trained in the best ways to support palliative care patients. They are also trained to capture patients’ life story as Biography volunteers,
