Volunteer coordinator Jill McLean bids us farewell

Its time to say cheerio, as I will be going on an extended trip to the UK. I have been the Volunteer Coordinator and Greenwich and Neringah Hospitals, HammondCare, for nearly 2 years.

There’s been many good things about this job. I’ve always liked how easy it  is to work at HammondCare. They welcomed me into my role when I was first starting out and are extremely supportive of the volunteer programme in general. But of course it is working with the volunteers that really makes the role special.

I have been privileged to meet many volunteers from all walks of life, young and not so young. It is interesting to understand what brings people to volunteer in the first place and amazing to see such generosity in terms of time and in empathy.

The pandemic has continually thrown a spanner in the works of our regular Jolly Trolley and of several programmes we tried to establish, but I am delighted  in the knowledge that we are finally getting the coffee clubs going, the Reverie Harp has just been introduced in Greenwich Palliative Care and biographers are recently trained and ready to go.

We wish you good luck with all your future endeavours, Jill. Thank you for being a part of the NSW Network of Managers of palliative Care Volunteer Services.
