Seeking people with lived experience of palliative care

Palliative Care Australia is seeking Expressions of Interest from people who want to improve palliative care for individuals, families, and communities across the country.

The National Register of Palliative Care Consumers and Carers plays an important role in advising Palliative Care Australia and external organisations on health policy, service design, projects, research, and more. Members of the Register provide guidance and expertise and help shaping the health system that delivers high-quality palliative care for everyone who needs it.

Seeking to strengthen diversity and depth of perspectives, Palliative Care Australia encourages Expressions of Interest from people whose experiences are currently under-represented, including:

  • People with lived experience of paediatric palliative care (as a consumer, parent, carer, or family member)
  • Men, including fathers, partners, sons, brothers, and male carers
  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • People who are from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds, including migrants, refugees, and multicultural communities
  • LGBTQAI+ community members

Everyone is welcome to apply, and palliative care experience in all its forms is of value.

You may be a good fit if you:

  • Currently live in Australia
  • Have cared for a family member or community member with a serious illness or life-limiting condition who has received palliative care
  • Want to ensure palliative care services reflect the needs, values, cultural protocols, beliefs, and practices of diverse communities
  • Feel comfortable sharing your experiences and representing broader community perspectives to support system improvement
  • Are committed to helping make palliative care better for all Australians

Lived experience is more important than formal qualifications. Prior committee or policy experience is welcome but not essential. Support will be provided.
