Safe Home Visiting

- July 4, 2023
You just never know what’s on the other side of a door. Every household is different. Is their dog friendly or snappy? Has a visiting family member created tension in the home? Are the family in the middle of a row? How easily can you get out of there if something goes wrong?
Palliative Care Volunteers that visit their clients in the community are exposed to situations very different to volunteers working in inpatient settings. Learning how to make home visits safer and more productive will help you as you visit clients.
The Centre for Community Welfare Training (CCWT) offers online training in ‘Safe Home Visiting’ so no matter where you are in the NSW, you have the opportunity to pick up these skills. Their next session runs on Wednesday 9 August.
The course uses realistic case scenarios and participant experiences to explore and develop good practice policy, procedures, and strategies for visiting clients in their homes.
The focus is on:
- Identifying safety issues, determining when it is safe to visit, how to make it safer and what to do if the visit gets tricky
- Practical safety tips and strategies for home visiting
- Approaches to work with clients that will keep you safer
- Good risk assessment practice in home visiting
- Developing/supporting agency policies and your home visiting practices
- Supporting you to maintain client-centred practice, your boundaries and your emotional and physical wellbeing
ONLINE COURSE: Wednesday 9 August, 9:30am – 4:30pm, Cost $360
OR
IN PERSON, SYDNEY CITY: Tuesday 17 October, 9:30am – 4:30pm, Cost $380
