Karly Edgar is a La Trobe University PhD candidate and she has spent the last three years embedded with Eastern Palliative Care (EPC) researching their Biography Program.
Karly comes to research with a narrative focus, drawing on her experiences as a lecturer in art, specialising in art and spirituality, a lecturer in the Cert IV in Leisure and Lifestyle, and working in lifestyle in aged care. She is also a mixed media visual artist.
Her soon to be completed research takes a narrative perspective of the experience of the four key research groups, clients who tell their life story, the volunteer biographers who assist their life storytelling, EPC staff, and client carers, merging research poetry and storytelling into the presentation of the program’s philosophical foundation and approach.
Recently, Karly had the opportunity to present her findings and we are pleased to be able to share with you a link to the recording. It was fascinating listening to creative mechanisms such as research poetry and what that brings to the findings.
Krystal Wallis is the Volunteer Services Consultant at EPC with over 11 years experience of working with the Biography Program and volunteers. She and Karly have been busy podcasting, together exploring the narrative of the research.
So far, three episodes are available and three more are planned. The podcast gives them an opportunity to speak in more detail with Karly talking from a research perspective and Krystal talking from the operational perspective.
