The Supportive and Palliative Care Unit at Mount Druitt Hospital will be turning 20 on 19th June.

To mark the occasion, staff, volunteers and members of the community are being invited to work together to create a mosaic masterpiece.

With a theme of ‘Healing in Nature’, patient, visitors, volunteers and staff are encouraged to participate in mosaic workshops to create the artworks with instruction provided by local artist, Maryanne Rowley.

The first workshop was undertaken at the Supportive and Palliative Care unit on Friday and the design will feature the unit’s hands logo with trees, flowers and birds surrounding the unit dates (1988 – 2018).

The artwork will be unveiled during the unit’s 20th birthday celebrations and will be placed in the garden area where the fountain is situated.

Palliative care volunteer manager, Kylie Clark says this artistic commemoration piece will connect the local community with the unit.

“We’re excited to be delivering a piece of history which can be enjoyed for many years to come,” Kylie said.

Volunteers are invited to participate in upcoming workshops at the unit, hosted by Bidwell Uniting.

Upcoming workshop dates are 15th, 22nd and 29th March, 5th and 12th April. Workshops are free with all material provided.
