As part of National Carers Week, the palliative care wards at Liverpool and Camden Hospitals hosted Carers Wellness Gatherings to honour and celebrate the vital role of carers in our community. With generous support from Carers NSW, both events offered a warm and welcoming space for carers, patients, volunteers and staff to connect, reflect and recharge.

Liverpool Hospital – Tuesday 14 October
Held on the balcony of the palliative care ward Liverpool Hospital’s gathering featured a relaxing morning tea, self-care packs, and a variety of mindfulness activities. Carers had the opportunity to decorate their own mugs and create ‘zentangle’ drawings – a calming art practice that promotes mindfulness and creativity. The event fostered meaningful connections and offered carers new strategies for self-care in a supportive environment.

Camden Hospital – Wednesday 15 October
Camden Hospital’s Palliative Care Ward hosted a beautiful gathering on its courtyard, where carers enjoyed morning tea, received self-care packs, and participated in mindful activities such as gardening and card writing. These simple yet heartfelt practices allowed carers to unwind and take home something personal and reflective of their experience.

“A heartfelt thank you to all the staff and volunteers who helped make these events possible,” says Hiten Narula, Northern SWSLHD Volunteer Manager. “Your efforts created a space where carers felt seen, supported, and appreciated – a true reflection of the spirit of National Carers Week.”
