International Volunteer Managers Day 2025

Every year on November 5th, the world celebrates the unsung heroes who power community services: Volunteer Managers. These dedicated professionals are the essential driving force behind countless programs that rely on volunteers to make a real difference.

Since its beginning in 1999, International Volunteer Managers Day (IVMDay) has blossomed into a global recognition observed in over 30 countries. This year’s theme, “Be BOLD. Make Change.”, spotlights the incredible courage, creativity, and leadership volunteer managers demonstrate every single day.

In New South Wales, we especially honour the volunteer managers leading over 50 palliative care volunteer services. They are the ones diligently recruiting, training, and supporting the volunteers who bring vital comfort, dignity, and connection to individuals at the end of life. Their exceptional leadership transforms individual goodwill into coordinated, compassionate care that truly matters.

IVMDay reminds us of a fundamental truth: for any volunteer service to truly thrive and reach its full potential, it requires a dedicated and well-resourced leader. If our goal is a more compassionate community, then investing in strong volunteer leadership is a proven path to success.

Palliative Care NSW and the Volunteer Services Support Program extend their deepest gratitude to all Palliative Care Volunteer Managers across NSW. You remind us that while volunteers may be the heart of care, it is your leadership that keeps that heart beating strong.
