Bradley Park in Rutherford was recently the scene of some friendly but serious rivalry with over 200 riders taking part in a special fundraising event.

The event consisted of five challenging team penning competitions which required significant skill and coordination between riders and their horses. Teams of three riders must select specific cattle from a large herd and guide them into a separate pen, all under a time limit.

This special event was named the “Ken Knight Challenge” to honour well-known local horseman, Ken Knight who has personally faced a serious illness.

By the end of the weekend, Valley Team Penning and the Eastern Branch of the Australian Stock Horse Society were able to donate a whopping $9,000 to local service, Dungog Shire Palliative Care Volunteers.

Coordinator Annette O’Neill thanked local supporters saying, “Our organisation relies heavily on donations to operate so we are very grateful for the donation.”
