			<p>The Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO) describes all occupations in the Australian and New Zealand labour markets.</p>
<p>ANZSCO is currently being reviewed by the Australian Bureau of Statistics and Volunteering Australia are advocating to get Volunteer Managers (Coordinators/Leaders) included in the revised classification.</p>
<p>ANZSCO is important because it is used to describe data for governments, industry, and businesses to inform and shape educational pathways, skilled migration programs and workforce strategies.</p>

	Nominations for the 2018 NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards close this Friday so get your nominations in quickly.
</p>
<p>
	Volunteers make a significant contribution to their communities and the best ones deserve to be lauded for their efforts. Every year The Centre for Volunteering acknowledges thousands of volunteers, volunteer managers, organisations and corporations across NSW who dedicate their time to making the world a better place through these awards.
</p>
<p>
	This year for the first time as well as the main award categories, volunteers can be recognised with a Certificate of Recognition. Anyone nominated in this category will receive their special certificate at one of the 20 regional ceremonies.
</p>
<p>
	The award categories are:
</p>

		Young Volunteer of the Year
	</li>
<li>
		Adult Volunteer of the Year
	</li>
<li>
		Senior Volunteer of the Year
	</li>
<li>
		Corporate Volunteer of the Year (individual)
	</li>
<li>
		Corporate Volunteer Team of the Year
	</li>
<li>
		Excellence in Volunteer Management
	</li>
</ul>
<p>
	Last year, the award for Excellence in Volunteer Management was awarded to <a href="http://volunteerhub.com.au/broken-hill-hospital-volunteer-manager-bags-best-in-the-state/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mary Leehane from Broken Hill Health Service</a> who looked after pallliative care volunteers as part of her busy role.

	<span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Anne-Marie Traynor has accumulated a wealth of experience over the 23 years that she has been managing volunteers at Calvary Kogarah.</span></span>

	<span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">So much so that Anne-Marie was recently awarded for her outstanding professional contribution to the field of volunteer management in palliative care by her peers.&nbsp; </span></span>
</p>
<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Her award was presented at the recent <em>Palliative Care Volunteer Manager&#39;s Conference</em> in Coolangatta Estate by the Convenor of the <a href="http://volunteerhub.com.au/volunteer-support-services/nsw-network-of-managers-of-palliative-care-volunteer-services-2/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Network of Managers of Palliative Care Volunteer Services</a>, Jacquie Martinez. </span></span>
</p>
<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">As Manager of Volunteers Anne-Marie has oversight of all volunteers at Calvary Kogarah Hospital, including palliative care volunteers within the hospital and in community visiting roles. Community visiting volunteers attached to her service are active not only at home but in supporting people in residential aged care. In all there are about 120 volunteers across the various activities. </span></span>
</p>
<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Anne-Marie said that she was honoured to receive the award. </span></span>
</p>
<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">&quot;I really believe that the contribution our volunteers make to the lives of patients and families is significant and meaningful.&quot; </span></span>
</p>
<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">&quot;I&#39;ve always been really grateful for the support of my peers, so a big thank you to everyone who has offered their help along the way.&quot;</span></span>
</p>
<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">The Network of Managers of Palliative Care Volunteer Services aims to ensure best practice for managers of palliative care volunteer services and to provide support for members of the Network. Membership is open to any and all managers of palliative care volunteers, meetings take place quarterly (<a href="http://volunteerhub.com.au/events-2/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">for meeting dates see Events page</a>) by teleconference and at venues within NSW.</span></span>

	<span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">A one day seminar held in Port Macquarie on Wednesday heard from several speakers under the title of <em>Being Present: Spirituality, Art and Experience in Palliative Care</em>.</span></span>
</p>
<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">The seminar was hosted jointly by Palliative Care NSW (Volunteer Support Services Programme) and the local Palliative Care Volunteer Service (Mid North Coast LHD). </span></span>
</p>
<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Kate Englebrecht spoke on Spirituality and Reflective Practice in palliative care, of &lsquo;lurking with intent&rsquo; to be present for others in their moments of enlightenment and transition, about authenticity and embracing the transcendent &lsquo;however you experience that&rsquo;.</span></span>
</p>
<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Local CNC Pauline Smith spoke about her experiences of travelling in Kerala and of being involved with the work of Indian palliative care luminary Dr Rajagopal. Dr Raj was recently in Australia touring with a biopic about his work &lsquo;<em>Hippocratic: 18 Experiments in Gently Shaking the World</em>&rsquo; and has been nominated for the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize.</span></span>
</p>
<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Other speakers included art therapist Adele Lingard, volunteer manager Lyn Nilsson and researcher Jaime Sanft.</span></span>
</p>

	<span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">The next seminar <a href="http://volunteerhub.com.au/warilla-being-present-spirituality-disruption-and-reflection-in-palliative-care/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Being Present: Spirituality, disruption and reflection in Palliative Care</a> will be held in Warilla (Illawarra Shoalhaven LHD) on the 19<sup>th</sup> of June 2018. The Australian Society for Intellectual Disabilities (NSW / ACT), in partnership with Palliative Care NSW, is hosting an interactive webinar furthering the conversation on &lsquo;Ethical Issues in Ageing&rsquo;.&nbsp; Our third event in this series will consider ethical issues relating to end of life for people with intellectual disability, delivered by Dr Michele Wiese, Lecturer in Applied Psychology, Western Sydney University, and Joan Ryan, Palliative Care Clinical Nurse Consultant, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.</span></span>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Michele&rsquo;s research focus is on end-of-life care for people with intellectual disability. She currently manages a number of research projects on this topic, engaging with researchers in Australia and overseas, the non-government disability sector, and government departments. Joan has extensive clinical experience in palliative care specialist nursing, education and counselling. Joan recognises the important role of the arts as a way of building bridges with people and their communities in order to open meaningful discussion about dying, death and loss. </span></span>

	<span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34);">The Australian Palliative Care Conference (APCC17) program has a strong clinical content, with presentations on complex issues including pain and symptom management, and palliative care developments for people with motor neurone, end-stage kidney disease, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. </span></span></span>

	<span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34);">It also caters to special interests, such Indigenous and multicultural communities, paediatric palliative care, telehealth and aged care.</span></span></span>

	<span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">Students, Carers and Volunteers can register for $400 (normally $1120) which includes the 3-day conference, daily catering, the Welcome Reception and the National Palliative Care Gala Awards Dinner.</span></span>

	<span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">For new, experienced or aspiring Volunteer Managers and Coordinators <em>The Centre for Volunteering</em> offers a 1 year <a href="http://www.volunteering.com.au/certificate-iv-volunteer-management/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Certificate 4 in Coordination of Volunteer Programs</a>. </span></span>
</p>

	<span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;"><em>&quot;This qualification reflects the role of workers who are responsible for coordinating volunteers within a program or organisation. So you need independent study skills. Allow for 10 hours plus reading time per week. The course must be completed within 1 year. </span></span>
