Volunteering and Sexual Harassment in the Workplace Survey

Sadly, sexual harassment is still all too common. Did you know volunteers don’t have the same legal protection from sexual harassment as employees under commonwealth laws?

Sexual harassment is unwelcome sexual behaviour in circumstances where a reasonable person would have anticipated that the person harassed would be offended, humiliated, or intimidated. Examples include unwelcome physical touching, staring or leering, suggestive comments or jokes, unwanted requests to go out on a date, requests for sex, emailing pornography or rude jokes, sending sexually explicit texts, intrusive questions about your private life or body, or displaying posters of a sexual nature.

Justice Connect and Volunteering Australia are working together on a joint submission to the National Inquiry into Workplace Sexual Harassment. They want to change the situation for volunteers when it comes to sexual harassment, and want to hear about your views and experiences.

If you have something to say, please take a few minutes to complete their short survey. You can answer this survey as a volunteer, a volunteer manager, an employer or anyone associated in any capacity as working in the volunteer sector.

Click here to take the survey. Survey closes on Wednesday 12 December.
