In Orange on the 10th of October (next week) a Spirituality and Reflective Practice in Palliative Care forum will discuss spirituality in the context of caring for people at or near the end of their lives. Kate Englebrecht will also explore reflective practice for practitioners and how meaning is made or formed from our experiences of caring. Click here for more information and to register.

Michael Barbato will be speaking on Experiences around Dying in Tamworth on the 25th of October, looking at dreams, visions/hallucinations, symbolic language, unconsciousness, the moment of death within the context of caring for people at or near the end of their lives. Notre Dame University are holding a workshop on the Spiritual Dimensions of Palliative Care on the weekend of 3-4th November in Sydney. The organisers say that the workshop was specifically developed for advanced specialty trainees in palliative medicine but would be of interest to anyone wanting to explore topics such as meaning, suffering, hope, forgiveness, love and healing. On Saturday the 17th November a free workshop On Death and Dying will be held in Sydney to explore, amongst other things, communication at end of life, how emotions, attitudes, beliefs and past experiences can result in us trying too hard to say or do ‘the right thing’, and ways in which we can be more comfortable and natural, and convey compassion and presence. This is a one-day event for health professionals including palliative care workers, GPs, chaplains, volunteers, undertakers, counsellors and those involved with caring for dying friends or family. The workshop has been developed by Roger Cole with Petrea King, Michael and Ann Barbato. Click here to download the flyer [230kB] or click here to register (registrations essential please).
