Free one day palliative care seminar rich in spirituality and art

There are only two profound spiritual questions: What’s happening? And what matters? You and I aren’t there to give them answers…but we can be there for them in their moment of enlightenment.

A one day seminar held in Port Macquarie on Wednesday heard from several speakers under the title of Being Present: Spirituality, Art and Experience in Palliative Care.

The seminar was hosted jointly by Palliative Care NSW (Volunteer Support Services Programme) and the local Palliative Care Volunteer Service (Mid North Coast LHD).

Kate Englebrecht spoke on Spirituality and Reflective Practice in palliative care, of ‘lurking with intent’ to be present for others in their moments of enlightenment and transition, about authenticity and embracing the transcendent ‘however you experience that’.

Local CNC Pauline Smith spoke about her experiences of travelling in Kerala and of being involved with the work of Indian palliative care luminary Dr Rajagopal. Dr Raj was recently in Australia touring with a biopic about his work ‘Hippocratic: 18 Experiments in Gently Shaking the World’ and has been nominated for the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize.

Other speakers included art therapist Adele Lingard, volunteer manager Lyn Nilsson and researcher Jaime Sanft.

The next seminar Being Present: Spirituality, disruption and reflection in Palliative Care will be held in Warilla (Illawarra Shoalhaven LHD) on the 19th of June 2018. All welcome!
