The not-for-profit organisation Sunshine supports people with intellectual disabilities where they live and work, and their carers.

If the subject of dying is difficult for the general community, Sunshine found that amongst people with intellectual disabilities it is ‘often swept under the rug completely’.

When the University of Sydney and Keeley University (UK) won an Australian Research Council Linkage Grant, Sunshine was involved in a research project that has yielded resources to help support workers to have better conversations with people with intellectual disabilities to have better conversations about death.

The Toolkit includes a DVD resource ‘Dying to Talk’ and was winner of an Australian Writer’s Guild Award in 2015.
