Support better palliative care by volunteering

  • by Volunteer Hub
  • September 6, 2016

World Hospice and Palliative Care Day 2016 will be held on 8th October with the theme ‘Living and dying in pain: It doesn’t have to happen’.

Volunteer support is an important part of palliative care that can help relieve the experience of pain, sometimes by simple acts of volunteers relating with empathy, spending time in companionship, offering a distraction in the form of an outing or an activity, or by light touch massage.

Carers can also experience pain, and in-home respite by community visiting volunteers is a form of practical support for families of people in palliative care.
