There are some great opportunities coming up in the first half of this year for volunteers and managers of volunteers to connect with their peers and engage in some professional development.

Coming up in Parkes on April 3, the Parkes Neighbourhood & Community Information Centre Palliative Care Volunteers are putting on their annual seminar.

This year guest speakers include Beate Steller and Lita Mathews. Beate specialises in grief and loss education and counselling and Lita is a palliative care social worker.

The seminar will include valuable interactive sessions that will benefit volunteers including ‘Engaging volunteers in practical matters’ and ‘Linking a stronger community of palliative care volunteers’.

Managers of Palliative Care Volunteers will have their chance to get together in Orange on June 22 and 23. Palliative Care NSW is hosting their biannual Volunteer Manager Conference in the Central West to give managers from new services in that region an opportunity to attend.

Topics will focus on areas that volunteer managers will find useful to help them with the day-to-day management of their volunteers and how to better support their team.

NALAG (National Association for Loss and Grief) will be hosting their symposium on June 25 and 26. As well as information on end of life issues the seminar will touch on providing a well-meaning response to a crisis, and how as a community we can be good supporters.

More information on all these events still to come. Stay tuned for more details.
