Guidance Manual for Palliative Care Volunteer Training launched

  • January 30, 2020

The Guidance Manual for Palliative Care Volunteer Training was officially launched at the last NSW Network of Managers of Palliative Care Volunteer Services meeting for 2019 and is now available for download from our website.

The keenly awaited manual has been produced as an accompaniment to the 2018 Palliare Handbook for Palliative Care Volunteers in NSW (2nd ed.) and offers the Palliative Care Volunteer Trainer a framework to deliver training that relates to the handbook.

It provides guidance for trainers and presenters with a view to being integrated with an organisation’s requirements, professional knowledge as well as allowing recognition of a volunteer’s prior learning.

Professor Deb Parker, President Palliative Care NSW, remarks in the foreword of the Guidance Manual; “…training is critical in the orientation, familiarisation and acculturalisation of the candidate to the setting and context of palliative care and training is important when it comes to instil confidence in clinicians who refer volunteer to work with their vulnerable patients.”

The manual is available at no cost to download in electronic form or for self-printing from the resources section of the Palliative Care NSW Volunteerhub website. The Palliare Handbook is also available at for download and print. A printed version of the Palliare Handbook can be ordered by emailing us.
